Don Lee Center is welcoming Home School families to participate in our first Home School Day. Come join us in a variety of hands-on educational activities for all age groups, so bring the whole family!
During the morning students will participate in two of our educational classes. After lunch the grounds will be open for families to experience our camp activities such as canoeing, archery, sailing, animal encounters and arts & crafts. Afternoon activities will wrap up at 4:00 pm. See below for complete details.

Home School Day at Don Lee Camp and Retreat Center

The Don Lee Center is welcoming Home School families to join us during our first Home School Day! Registration is required. Check in will begin at 9:30 am at the Fellowship Hall. Arrive no later than 9:45 am.
From 10:00 am - 12:30 pm students will participate in a variety of hands-on educational activities for all age groups, so bring the whole family! The activities each age group will participate in are listed below.
Ages 2-5:
Dig in our fossil pile, participate in a scavenger hunt, and get creative with side walk chalk!
Ages 6-9:
Creatures of the Neuse = Explore the interconnectedness of coastal animals, track the wildlife and “pull” plaster casts of river fauna.
Pond Study = Learn the components of freshwater food webs and explore pond species by collecting from our onsite pond.
Ages 10-13:
Marine Invertebrates = Learn about the diversity of invertebrates in NC waters and examine the internal and external anatomy of a squid through dissection.
Coastal Forest Ecology = Explore the biodiversity of coastal woodlands, forest succession and the importance of decaying matter; learn basic plant taxonomy and tree identification.
Ages 14 & up:
Fantastic Fish = Learn about the biological and ecological adaptations of fish as well the anatomy through dissection.
Man and the Neuse River = How do we impact the river and surrounding environment? How can one person help? Test water quality and explore the environmental issues surrounding the river.
In the afternoon the grounds will be open for families to experience our camp activities such as canoeing, archery, sailing, animal encounters and arts & crafts. Afternoon activities will wrap up at 4:00 pm.
From 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm we will have a lunch break. Feel free to bring your own picnic lunch or join us for a Don Lee lunch. A Don Lee lunch is $8.50 per person with children under 5 eating for free. Lunch is served family style and includes a full salad bar, a meat, 2 vegetables, bread, dessert and drinks.
What to bring: We will be outside for most of the day so please dress appropriately for the weather. Close-toed shoes are encouraged. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks and lunch if you choose to bring your own.
Our camp store will be open from 2:00 – 4:00. We have snacks, drinks and a variety of clothing items and souvenirs. Cash and credit cards accepted.

Registration Instructions:
Sign in with an existing Don Lee account or Create an Account.
Account Type = Individual/Family – If you are registering as a larger group please email or call us.
Enter information for the primary adult contact. Scroll down to Login Information and Create a Password. Click Create Account.
Next click Add a Person to My Account. Start with all additional adults attending. Once information is entered click Save Person. Now add all children attending ages 2-18. When finished click Save Person.
Next Make a Family/Small Group Reservation.
Select Session – School Groups – Chaperone – Select either Lunch Included or No Meal. For Students – Please select Lunch Included or No Meal for the appropriate age group for all children attending. Pay close attention to the age ranges as prices vary. Click Next.
Please read directions carefully for the following steps. When you arrive to My Cart please review your reservation carefully. At times orders are duplicated. Proceed to Check Out, enter your information, and Process Order.
Cancellation Policy: If you are no longer able to attend please contact Jessica (contact information below) by November 14, 2018. If the Don Lee Center needs to cancel this event due to weather you will receive an email 24 hours prior to the event.
