JOB POSTING: Maintenance and Facilities Director
Reports to: Center Director
Position Purpose: The Maintenance and Facilities Director directs the overall maintenance operations of the camp, and is responsible for planning and coordinating the development, maintenance, and repair of the camp’s buildings, grounds, equipment, and other facilities. Working cooperatively with the center director and other full time team to ensure facilities are well maintained, safe and ready for guests.
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of a maintenance management system (prevention, correction, and construction).
- Oversee the purchase, use, and care of all maintenance equipment and supplies.
- Implement a system for regular maintenance and upkeep of camp buildings, vehicles and grounds, including routine duties such as mowing, painting, inspections, etc.
- Schedule for routine maintenance and vendor contracts on equipment and services including trash removal, recycling, vehicle maintenance, pest control.
- Have an understanding of septic systems and willingness to learn more. Understand drinking water testing and requirements of the state of NC to meet standards.
- In cooperation with the waterfront coordinator, maintain the swimming pool/pond in good repair and operation, ensuring the water feature is maintained and in good working order and associated docks and other features are in good repair.
- Hire, train, supervise, schedule and coordinate staff engaged in maintenance and housekeeping
- Improvement of the camp’s buildings, equipment, and other facilities.
- Supervise and coordinate volunteer work teams at camp.
- Oversee the inventory and ordering of equipment and provisions related to the maintenance and repair of the buildings, vehicles, grounds and housekeeping.
- Monitor expenditures to stay on budget.
- Perform all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state, and federal guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.
Other Key Duties:
- Contribute to strategic discussions as needed to ensure the integration of programming and property in order to deliver programs that meet the needs of guests.
- Assist in the long range planning for the center.
- Assist in representing the camp to local businesses and other related camp groups.
Qualifications (Minimum Qualifications and Experience)
- Experience in facility and site management, maintenance, landscaping, construction. Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, HVAC or ability to learn a plus.
- Experience in staff supervision.
- Ability to assist in development of expense budget and to work with a budget and purchase needed supplies.
- Willing to pursue some or all of these certifications with camp support: Certified Pool Operator, WasteWater Treatment Operator Level 1 and 2; C-Well operator, Red Cross First Aid/CPR, ServSafe, Darkness to Light Child Protection, Commercial Driver’s License.
Physical Aspects of the Position:
- Physical strength to lift equipment and supplies (up to 50 pounds), mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time. Ability to safely drive cars, light trucks, tractors, and other motorized vehicles.
- Work schedule primarily Mon-Friday but can include some weekends. Working conditions are primarily outdoors.
Don Lee Camp & Retreat Center is a year-round retreat, environmental education and summer camp serving primarily children and youth, located in Arapahoe, NC. This is a full-time, year-round position with benefits. We are affiliated by faith with the United Methodist Church.

JOB POSTING: Don Lee Camp & Retreat Center Program Intern
Reports to: Program Leadership
Job Statement: The Program Intern is a one year position designed to give a broad overview and experience of camp and retreat ministry, including retreats, environmental education, summer camp and overall administration. The internship will be broad in scope but with the flexibility to focus on the individual’s gifts and talents while meeting the needs of the camp program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist and lead as needed with weekend retreats, including hosting and leading programing and assisting in planning.
- Assist and lead as needed with Coastal staff training and programming, including leading staff training classrooms, hosting groups, corresponding with school groups and other administrative tasks associated with EE. Assist with animal care as needed.
- Serve as Summer Camp Coordinator during summer camp. This will include helping to plan summer camp with full time staff, including parent communication, staff training, programing, policies and procedures for staff and campers.
- Assist in planning and leading staff training. Assist in interviewing and hiring process, on boarding of summer staff.
- Assist waterfront coordinator as needed with preparations for the sailing program.
- Other duties as assigned.

JOB POSTING: Hourly Kitchen Position
Kitchen staff works together with the Dining Hall manager and shift leaders to prepare meals for all groups on property, clean and maintain the kitchen and dining hall, and other tasks as assigned.
Duties may include but are not limited to: cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, taking out trash, washing/drying/folding linens, organizing food orders, etc.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical requirements include: ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and able to work on his/her feet all day.
This is a part time/seasonal position with the potential of continuing post season.
