JOB POSTING: Program Specialist for Retreats

Statement of Job: The program specialist will work independently and cooperatively with members of our full time program team to help deliver the programming of Don Lee Camp & Retreat Center, including retreats and summer camps. This role is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to start a career or taking the next step in retreat and camping ministry. 

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree with preference given to recreation, religious education, or similar courses. Experience in church ministry, religious education, children or youth ministry or camp and retreat ministry a plus. A willingness to be involved in the year-round ministry of Camp Don Lee, a 501 (c) (3), affiliated by faith with the United Methodist Church.

Work Environment: Don Lee Camp & Retreat Center is a year-round facility, offering residential summer camp, environmental education programs to schools from across N.C., and retreats. We are in a coastal setting  located in Arapahoe, NC on the Neuse River Estuary. We are a 501(c) (3) affiliated by faith with the United Methodist Church.

Job duties: 

  1. To develop a year around program of retreat ministry for the center. To coordinate the use of the facility, staff and resources as required by guest groups. To work to provide an exceptional program of Christian hospitality to guests.
  2. To develop and coordinate faith based Don Lee-sponsored retreats, including Middle School Girls, Father-Child, Family Camp and others as needed.
  3. To work in cooperation with other team members to make sure groups are booked and scheduled as needed. 
  4. To maintain and update our retreat reservation software, which includes keeping records of payments, contracts, and other information within the scope of retreat administration. 
  5. To network and promote user groups for Don Lee Center. To work cooperatively with the communications specialist to have materials and campaigns to reach these target audiences.
  6. To network and visit potential churches and other appropriate groups to cultivate retreats at Don Lee Center. To act as onsite host for guest groups, which would include weekends.
  7. To work in cooperation and coordination with other program team members with hiring retreat staff. To teach and train staff in working a retreat at Don Lee Center. 
  8. To serve as part of the programming team at Don Lee,  focusing primarily on retreats, summer camp.This includes working cooperatively with the rest of the team with regard to hiring, training and planning.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

JOB POSTING: Communications and Program Specialist

Statement of Job: The Communications and Program Specialist will work cooperatively with the program team to implement marketing and communications strategies for our various programs, including summer camp, environmental education, retreats and outreach to our camp alumni, and serve as retreat host as needed.

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, marketing, recreation,hospitality, ministry or related fields. Strong written and verbal skills. Solid understanding of print, video, digital, photography and social media preferred . Experience with WordPress, the Adobe design suite  a plus. Some experience with summer camp or retreat facilities a plus. This is an entry level position.

  1. Assist with external communication in print and digital media to promote Don Lee programs to appropriate audiences.
  2. Develop monthly e-newsletter.
  3. Develop and maintain website.
  4. Serve as host as needed for retreat groups.
  5. Work cooperatively with summer staff media employees to effectively communicate with parents each day, including managing camper and parent emails, blog posts, our parent app,  and photography posts.
  6. Maintain a strong social media presence for our programs on a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat and others.
  7. Coordinate marketing display programs for recruitment of staff as well as families to camp.
  8. Responsible for taking photographs year round and organizing them so we can use them in various platforms.
  9. Serve as part of the program team and work collaboratively on the execution of existing programs, hiring of summer staff, and the development of new programs.
  10. Develop communication and programs to cultivate a robust camp staff alumni base for support of programs and fund raising.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

JOB POSTING: Hourly, Seasonal Housekeeping Position

Housekeeping staff works together with the housekeeping coordinator and maintenance department to clean and maintain all cabins, bathrooms, bathhouses and other essential camp buildings.

Duties may include but are not limited to: cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, taking out trash, washing/drying/folding linens, organizing, window washing, pressure washing, leaf blowing, painting, etc.

Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.

Physical requirements include: ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and able to work on his/her feet all day.

This is a part time/seasonal position with the potential of continuing post season.
